ANOTHER ELECTION IS UPON US. It has been rather quiet on the political front so far this year. There were a few primaries, all of them Republicans! How’s that for a change! Now the general campaign starts for the local races.

There is a race for two City Council seats in Auburn. Political newcomer Jack Hardy on the Democratic line joins incumbent Councilor Bill Graney. We have active races in several legislative districts. Steve Barski has visited all of the homes in District 11 and is just starting a second lap around the neighborhoods! Jim Hutchinson is returning to the campaign trail to retain the seat Dan Schuster held in District 13. Cindy Aikman is keeping touch with her constituents and enjoying a campaign to keep the District 13 seat in Democratic hands. Out in the County, Barbara Abbott King, a known name from previous runs, is taking on and incumbent District 7 and Phil DelloStritto is our candidate in a very winnable 3-way race for the open seat in Fleming and Aurelius.

There are 42 Candidates running with Democratic endorsement this year. They need our support. The role of the county committee is to supplement the fundraising, which candidates do on their own. The two major sources of funds for the CCDC are the Fall Dinner and the Chair’s Club. The dinner will be held on Thursday October 29th at the new Highland Park Clubhouse. The funds raised by these two events sustain the party apparatus (the nuts and bolts – or more accurately the paper, postage and petitions) and support local candidates.

The success of these candidates depends on getting our message out and getting our voters to the polls in November. It is costly to say the least -- yard signs, palm cards, advertising and mailings add up fast. Your support is critical to this success.
